Shipwrecks.
LOSS OF THE INVERKIP.
In the collision of the ship Loch Carron and the barque Inverkip off the south coast of Ireland last Saturday night, when the latter vessel sank in three minutes, twentytwo persons perished. Both vessels were under press of canvas. The night was dark and rainy.
The Loch Carron’s three passengers were aroused by the crash and by the shrieks of others on board both vessels. The boats were at once ordered out.
The Inverkip was locked for a moment with the Loch Carron, and when the vessels parted the former foundered head foremost.
ITALIAN BARQUE WRECKED. The Italian barque Leonardo, 521 tons, commanded by Captain Cacace, which left Sydney on July 26th for Mauritius and Reunion with a general cargo, broke her anchorchain and drifted on to a reef.
The vessel was totally wrecked The crew were saved.
