Escape from the Wellington Terrace Prison.

Two prisoners named Arthur Rawson and James Atkinson are reported to have escaped from the Terrace Gaol on Saturday night or early on Sunday morning. ChiefDetective McGrath and hia staff, Detective Benjamin, of Palmerston, who happened to be in the city, and a number of mounted policemen were out all day on Sunday searching for the escapees, but no trace of them had been found up to a late hour that evening. Rawson was born in England and is thirty-three years of age, sft Tin in height, of medium build, dark complexion, dark brown hair, and grey eyes. lie was dressed in prison clothes, and has a Union Jack tattooed on the right arm and an anchor and star on the left. Rawson was sentenced to twenty-one months’ imprisonment at Wellington on the 11th February for breaking and entering at Palmerston North. Atkinsou is a native of Australia and is twenty-eight years of age. He is said to be sft Bin in height, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes and large nose, weight about 104 stone. Atkinson was serving a sentence of three years for housebreaking and theft. He previously escaped from Wanganui gaol.

The men Rawson and Atkinson, reported in the “ Times ” yesterday as having escaped from the Terrace Gaol, were re-arrested last night at Tawa Flat at 10 o’clock by Detective Cassells and Constable McLeod.
