ADMIRAL ALEXIEFF.

The resignation of Admiral Alexieff, Russian ■ Viceroy in the Far East, has not yet been accepted. ACTIVITY OF THE JAPANESE. The Japanese are concentrating a division north of Wiju, in Korea, near the mouth of the Yalu. They have removed the Korean population from the locality. The Japanese are collecting sections of pontoon bridges opposite the island of Mabikihi, and are preparing boats south of the river Poraakua. Two officers and thirty-two Russians, in boats on the Pomakua river, exchanged shots with the enemy. Three Russians were killed, while both officers and fifteen men were wounded, twelve seriously.

THE BLACK SEA FLEET

M. Zinovieff, Russian Ambassador at Constantinople, is pressing for the pa/ment of £930,000, indemnities to Russian subjects in the war of 1878. This action is interpreted to mean that Russia will shortly ask for permission for the Black Sea fleet to pass through the Dardanelles.

‘ TRANSPORTS FOR RUSSIA.

Russia has purchased nine German liners for conversion into transports, to replace some vessels on the Baltic. It is stated they were purchased prior to the war.

CHINESE NEUTRALITY.

The Chinese Viceroys at Kirin and Mukden, in Manchuria, bitterly resent Russia’s highhandedness in trying to induce the Chinese to abandon their attitude of neutrality. JAPS PREPARING FOR A FOR-

WARD MOVE.

A Seoul telegram states the Japanese are preparing to simultaneously rush three points, including Port Arthur. Russian rumours credit General Kachstulinsky with annihilating seventeen hundred Japanese, being one of the' three columns crossing the Yalu. It is reported at Weihaiwei that the original Japanese plans of their campaign were stolen at Tokio, thus delaying field operations.
