Shoddy Importations.

The large amount of shoddy articles being imported into the colony it receiving considerable attention this session, the latest phase being a request from Mr Lawry to the Commissioner of Trade and Customs that an expert inspector should be appointed to detest and distinguish shoddy articles from woollen goods. The Hon. Mr Mills intimated that a Bill dealing with the whole subject of of shoddy importations would shortly be given to the House for discussion. As for the experts, his own department would be able to provide one equal to the requirements .of the office, but he understood the Labor Department would be better able to attend to the work, and at a very small cost to the colony.
