A Serious Charge.

Daniel Yinson Doaaetor was on Monday further remanded on the charge of performing an illegal operation upon Isabella M'Callum. It was stated that the woman is out of danger. Bail was fixed at accused in £250 and two sureties of £350 each.

The Auckland Star of the 2nd instant, in reporting the preliminary proceeding, says : —Although it was not considered that the woman was' in extremis, her depositions were taken at the Hospital as a precaution in case of her non-recovery. M’Callum, living in Dunedin, and that she came to Auckland on a holiday some three weeks ago. She know accused by sight, but was hot sure what his name was. She thought it was Boville, or something of that sort. She had teen him at Eccles’’ chemist’s shop in Queenstreet, where she had been several times to purchase small articles. On the first occasion that she consulted him in respect to her condition, she asked him if he could do anything for her. He did nothing that day, but at another time she went into a room at the back of the shop, and he there made use of an instrument. The operation was repeated on three subsequent occasions, the last being on Saturday. For the purpose of having this done she gave him £1 on the first occasion, and was to pay another £l. On Monday afternoon she again saw him. He did not then do anything, but told her it would be as well for her to get medical advice. He did not recommend any particular medical-man, but he thought that Dr Goldie Ivas as good as anybody else.
