Mr Simpson’s New House.
Oar representative yesterday inspected the new house Mr Simpson is having built on the Norbiton road, At present the carpenters have not quite completed, and then, of course, follows the painters and decorators, which will be the time to see it as it should be seen, hut the house is so far advanced as to assure the visitor of its future comfort. Mr A. Speirs has the contract and has made, as was to be expected, a capital job. The house is set back slightly from the road, and has a capital elevation. The front has a verandah in part, which is returned round the house giving a door from the dining room on to it. The entrance has a wide passage, in fact a small hall, broken from the rest of the passage by an arch. On the left of the entrance is the parlour 14 x 20, with a bay window, and a double chimney giving a* fireplace in the adjoining room, which is 14 x 12, then two other rooms follow on, one 14 x 8 and the other 14 x 10, when the passage ends up at a bath room. On the right of the entrance is a sitting-room 14 x 14 with a double chimney, which gives a fireplace to the next room, the dining room, 20 x 15, out of which a door opens on to the returned verandah. The next room is the breakfast room, 10 x 12, which opens on to the kitchen, 10 x 12. From the kitchen is a pantry and then another bedroom 14 x 12. The studs are all 12ft, and the front rooms and the passage have panelled ceilings. The hall and passage will be da doed. There is a convenient trap in the diningroom wall, through which meals can be banded to save further travelling. The kitchen is fitted with one of Shacklock’s ranges, and hot and cold water will be laid on to kitchen and bathroom, also Acetylene gas throughout the bouse. Outside are large rain tanks and at the back a large washhouse fitted with copper, with a storeroom adjoining. Mr Simpson believes in cold water as he is having built, in addition to galvanised tanks, a large wooden tank for the high-service supply. When finished Mr Simpson will he possessed of a most comfortable residence. Mr R. Gray has been entrusted with laying out the approach to the house.
