A Strange Case.

DISPUTED PATERNITY OF A CHILD.

A remarkable case has occupied Sir Francis Jeune in the Divorce Court for seven days. Christian Gordon, a member of the London Stock Exchange, obtained a divorce from his Wife on the ground of her adultery with his cousin, Lord Granville, petitioner being granted the custody of a child, named Cecily. The wife took the child abroad, married the co-respondent in the divorce case, and then applied to Mr Justice Jeune to allow her the custody of the child, alleging that it was the correspondent’s and not Christian Gordon’s child.- She and her present husband deposed that immoral relations had existed between them before her marriage with Christian Gordon,-and had continued throughout her married life, with Gordon’s knowledge and connivance. Gordon deposed that he did not suspect his wife’s guilt until shortly before he obtained a divorce, and declared himself tho father of Cecily. Mr Justice Jeune, holding that the balance of probabilities was in favour of 1 i ordon, ordered Cecily to be surrendered to him. abduction of the child. While Mr Justice Jeune was summing up, Lady Gordon left the Court, and disappeared with the child. Her husband states that he was not aware of her destination, and expected to find her at home, A telegram from Calais states that she arrived there early on Thursday, and proceeded to Paris.
