Murderous Assault.

A CASHIER STRUCK DOWN AND ROBBED OF iaW,; Thomas Raid, a clerk in the employ of Messrs Sargood, Son and Ev/en, of Dunedin, was murderously assaulted and robbed yesterday afternoon of £286. The money to pay the employees in the firm’s boot factory is taken from the bank to the warefaouw and there made np iato parcels. It was Reid’s duty to take the money from the warehouse to the boot fa story* which is situated behind the railway station. Evidently someone who knew the routine of the business waited for Reid, and as he passed the vacant section near the boot factory came out through a hole in the fence and struck Reid a stunning blow from behind, and then, putting a sack over his head, cleared out with the £286 he was carrying. Reid, who is 23 years of age, was later found in a semi-conscious condition and removed to the hospital, where he has relapsed into uncon-, sciousness without having spoken so far. He was cut on the back pf the head* the wound being evidently"produced by k blunt instrument., Two men seen about ’ the. locality during the dsy and the nonce are making enquiries* Sht so far no arrests have been made.
