Boers v. Zulus.

In October last a Commission was appointed to inquire into Boer allegations that the British Magistrate at Port Shepstone, Natal, had incited the Zulus to massacre the inmates of a Boer laager at Holkrantz in the previous May. The official report of the Commission exonerates the Zulus and the Magistrate. It states that General Botha burht the raider chief Sekobobo’s kraals. John jPotgietar, one of the Boer leaders, burnt three natives alive, and sent a message to Sekobobo saying that the Boers bad driven the Zulus’ wives and children to Vryheid and taken their cattle, stigmatising the Zulus as only “ fowl lice," and challenging them to retake their cattle. The Zulus accepted the challenge, and attacked Potgieter’s force. Fiftysix Boers were killed, and the cattle were recaptured. Oa the side of the Zulus fifty-six were killed and forty-eight wounded.
