Foxton Rifles.

Last night two meetings were held at the drill shed in connection with the above corps— one of the Shooting Committee and one of the Finance Committee—at which the following business was done:— SHOOTING COMMITTEB. ’ Present—Captain Walsh, Lieut. Baker, Sergts. Mitchell and Austin, and Privates Smith and Ball. It was decided on the motion of Private Ball, seconded by Private Smith; That Johnston & Go’s., Paterson & Go’s, and Captain Walsh’s trophies be shot for in competition, Open from 11th , Sept, to 6th Oct. Nominations to close on 11th Sept. ; entrance fee Is.

Proposed by Captain Walsh, seconded by Private Smith, That the ranges be 500 and 700yds, 7 shots at each range. Two sightera at each range. Carried. It was decided that the conditions be the same as at last competition, deciding 10 shots at 600yds. FINANCE COMMITTEE. Present—Captain Walsh, Lieut, Baker and Sergts. Mitchell and Austin. A cheque for £8 from the Government for class-firing was received. Sundry small accounts were passed for payment. Proposed by Captain Walsh, seconded by Sergt. Austin, That the Secretary be instructed to write to the Wellington Woollen Co., N.Z. Clothing Co, and Bannatyne & Co,, for samples and price of drill uniforms. Carried.

Sergt. Austin’s offer of two tram rails for trench posts was accepted with thanks.

Proposed by Captain Walsh, seconded by Lieut. Baker, That Lieut. Jonson be asked to put in a price for all alteration necessary for new coarse of class-firing. Carried.
