Ohakea.

Mr J. Stevens, M.H.R., a one - , time member of the Board, appeared before the Land Board on Thursday ■ morning on behalf of certain Crown tenants on the Ohakea Settlement, near Bulls (Rangitikei), who asked that the regulation limiting them to ■ two crops in succession from , same land might be relaxed, reports the Post. Also that they should he allowed to take three successive ' ' grain crops and two root crops off their paddocks before laying the land in grass. Largely-signed petitions in favour of the proposed alteration were read. Mr Reese, who with Mr A. W. Hogg, M.H.R., and Mr J. Strauchon (Commissioner) comprised the Board, considered the settlers should be allowed to make the best possible use of their leaseholds. The Commissioner held that the regulations must not be interfered with , without enquiry and consideration, as any alteration would affect Crown leaseholds generally; *Mr H'ogg thought it might be- advisable to secure some discretionary power, so that soil, situation and circumstances might be considered in connection with a rotation of crops. Heimoved ■ that the Minister be asked, to allow - two practical farmers from another' district to visit the settlement and report on the application and oh the desirability of amending the regulations. This was carried.
