Polo.
The game between Manawatu and Hawke’s Bay resulted in one of the fastest and best-contested games ever seen in this district. In the opening spell neither side had much advantage, until Manawatu scored their first goal. Hawke’s Bay then retaliated, and at the end of the third spell the score stood Manawatu 3, Hawke’s Bay 1. j Early in the fourth spell Harold Abraham got a crack on the head from a stick, and the game was stopped for some time. Immediately after Hawke’s Bay scored, and then Strang was knocked out for a few minutes with one on the chin. Hawke's Bay soon scored two goals in quick succession, then Manawatu scored again, and on call of r time the score was 4 all. Two extra spells were played before the winning point was scored by Hawke’s Bay, a pony kicking a bit out straight to Nelson, who bit the ball between the posts. The game was played out in a ding-dong fashion and in the best sportsmanlike spirit, no talking and wrangling taking place, and at the end it was anyone’s game. In consequence of this hard game it has been decided to abandon Monday’s match, as the ponies, after such a go, could not be called upon to play again.—Press Association.
