Messrs Abraham & Williams 1 Stock Report.
Since last report we have had a very full catalogue of sales, including two large clearing sales at Mangatoro in conjunction with Mr W. Rose on behalf of the Assets Realisation Board, and at Kumeroa on behalf of Mr Thomas Crosse.
At Levin on the 14th inst. we had another large muster of stock, every yard being filled. There was a good attendance, but bidding for all classes was fiat, and prices of a fortnight ago were'Jhardly realised, with a few exceptions a general clearance was made. At Palmerston on Thursday we had an average entry of sheep and a very full yarding of cattle. The attendance was good, including buyers from Hawke’s Bay and Hawera. The sheep, with a. few exceptions, were of inferior quality and bidding dragged. Good shorn lambs for rape were in demand, but woolly lambs did not bring a proportionate value. Fat sheep sold treely. The cattle mainly consisted of grown steers of fair quality, these sold freely especially really forward bullocks ; young cattle were also in demand, with the exception of two pens the whole of the entry changed hands. Pigs sold well. At. Mangatoro and Mr Crosse’s sales we had large attendances. Great credit is due to the managers of the two estates for their perfect arrangements, which ensured the success of the sales, enabling the large number of buyers to view the stock easily without crowding, and by giving them confidence that they would get exactly what they purchase. A large number of buyers were present from north and south, but in most cases the stock was bought locally, and the buyers from a distance wont away disappointed. At Mangatoro the stock was of good quality, bnt being mainly of'Lincoln classthey scarcely realised average values obtained at Mr Crosse’s sale where they were of crossbred Leicester and Romney types. Lambs sold badly at both sales, but young awes were keenly competed for. The shorthorn cattle oftered at Mangatoro were of really good quality, and scarcely brought their values considering their breeding, but being all female stock they did not suit buyers. On the whole both sales were thoroughly satisfactory, and a far better average of prices were obtained than at the ordinary stock sales.
