Manawatu County Council.

The usual monthly meeting of the . above Council was held at the Coun(|B offices, Sanson, yesterday. Present—p..... Crs J. G. Wilson (in the chair), Robin-' son, McLennan, Masters, Carter, Hammond and Clarke.

The following correspondence was read and dealt with

Mr Turner’s tender for painting a town board was accepted. From the Lands and Survey office, acknowledging receipt of plan of proposed deviation of the Ohakea-Terraco road. The plan would be checked, and the Council notified of the result at a later date.

From W. H. R. Flyger, asking particulars about plan ot deviation of Elkins’-Motuili road.—Mr Flyger'a account for the work was passed for payment.

From the Surveyor-General, stating that a proclamation was in course of preparation 5 with reference to taking land in the Mount Robinson Survey district, Block VI„ for a public road. From District Engineer, asking Council to have spark atrestors on their engine, as several small fires had been cruised of late by sparks from the Council’s engine. . From same, dealing with the condition of tram-line. , Some sleepers required renewing and some more attention should be paid to rail-joints. Bolts were missing out of a number of the fish-plates, and the Council’s early attention was requested to the matters enumerated.

TRAMWAY REPORT. The total receipts for the month were £164 10s. the expenses being £lO6 16a id, leaving a credit balance of £s7 13s nd on the months' working. The following quantities; of good* Ware carried Grain, 7 tons, minerals 165 J tons (including 141 tons material for extension) t merchandise 76 tons, manure af tons, hemp «3 tons, chaff 8 trucks, firewood and sleepers 8 trucks, green flax 16 trucks, timber 6,806 feet, pigs 4 trucks, wool 450 bales, horses 9, passenger fare £4O 13s yd.. FINANCE. V ' The clerk, Mr Purnell, reported the balance of the various accounts as under General account Dr £lll4lßs id; loan Cr £l5B 10s; . net debit balance £956 173 3d. TRAMWAY EXTENSION. Mr/Purnell reported that the four waggons purchased from Government arrived in Sanson on the xst February. Mr Boyle, the contractor, would require another progress payment of £6O on account of permanent way contract. Substantial progress had Been made with the granary. The concrete walls had been completed, and the floor roughly filled iu with spoil. The contract for construction of building (labour only) was let to T. Sutton for £ig, the work to be finished by 28th inst. The full cost of granary should not exceed £175. About 420 more sleepers were required to complete the construction. The total cost of tramway extension, including granary, should not exceed £7550. It was decided, as sopn as tffe granary was completed, to store grain for farmers at xd per bag per month, the wool or grain to be insured by the owner. Messrs Wilson, Parnell and Wrigley ware appointed- to draw up conditions. .

workman’s cottage. Messrs Purnell (clerk) and Mitchell (overseer) reported they had inspected the roadman’s cottage at Himitangi and found it almost uninhabitable. The total cost of necessary repairs would amount to £l2 10s. Mr McAlister, the roadman, was willing to pay the amount, provided he could occupy the cottage .while he was in the Council’s employ, which proposition was submitted to the Council for consideration. MOTIONS. ■ Resolved that Mr Harris be appointed registrar of dogs for the County of Manawalu. at £47 is fid; that the fee for the current year (1903) be as fid per dog for sheep, cattle and rabbit dogs, and 58 per dog for all other dogs; that the registration office be the County Office, Sanson. The tender of Mr F. J. Vile af s|d per collar was accepted; TENDERS. The following tenders were accepted 1 —Nos. 118, 119, mo, lax and 133, Stuart & Son; No. 133, White and Rapana ; No. 124, J. G. Rennie; No. 125, J. Campbell; No. 126, A. £. Bull* —Standard.
