A Sydney Scandal.
The Very Rev. Dr Denis Francis O'Haran has applied for a writ of attachment against a smal newspaper for commenting on the divorce suit Coningham versus floningham, in which the applicant was joined as co-respondent, in a manner which was likely to prejudice the case. r~ The paper a'leged that there was a rumour to the effect that efforts were being made to settle the case out of Court. Dr O'Harah absolute'y denied that he or anyone on his behalf had made an ofter to settle the matter. A rule was made calling upon the proprietor of the paper to show cause by Friday why the writ should not issue. A sensation has been caused by the arrest of Mr Ernest B. Abigail, a solicitor in connection with the Coningham caae, on an information laid by Dr O'Haran. v The information charges Abigail with endeavouring to induce one Thomas Coogan to make certain false statements. On Abigail being charged at the Court on Monday, his counsel stated that the' principal witness for • prosecution was sent to try to trap Abigail, and that the whole power of the Church of Borne was being used against his client The case was remanded to Monday accused being granted bail in a bond for £200.
