Lord Alverstone has been appointed Lord Chief Justice of England, in succession to the late Lord Russell of Killowen. [The new Lord Chief Justice, formerly known as Sir Richard Webster, was called to the Bar in 1868, and took silk ten years later. On entering Parliament in 1885 he was appointed Attorney-General in Lord Salisbury's Cveivi.uutit, ana heiJ t'.ie same position in 1895.
