METHODIST SOCIAL.

TO THE EDITOB OF THE MANAWATO HEBAIS*.

Sir, — We had a very enjoyable evening at the Methodist Social on Monday night last and if you will allow me space I would like to specially mention " The item of the evening."

A local resident whose courtship has evidently not been all smooth, after singing a song in his usual accomplished manner and turning to an encore before sitting down, gave us an insight into his character by telling us in beautifully chosen terms, the kind ot girl he usually courted She came from far back in the country from whence it would take a year to get to " Well'nt'n " her mouth feet and hands are large, her face red, her head thick and then she must have jilted him badly to make him so blind in his bitterness as not to see that the majority of ordinary country girls have more sense and gentility about their big feet than can possibly be found under the beautifully curled hair of some of our City Dandy Conceited Gentlemen. The recital concluded in a manner that cannot but give great credit to City manners and taste as compared with country vulgarity. In' conclusion Mr Editor t would advise all who do not attend the Methodist Socials to go if they want to be "up sides " with the latest City funny bits. Thanking you in anticipation. I am, &c,

One who was there.
