RETURN OF MR MACKENZIE
At an election for the velum of a member of the House of Representatives for Waihemo, vice Mr John McKenzie, ex-Minister of Lands.t he result of the polling was as follows : — Mr Thos. Mackenzie ... 1834 Mr W. Guffie 1008 Majority .. .. 826 The N.Z. Times says, when Mr Thomas Mackenzie represented the Clutha constituency it was generally found on crucial occasions that his voice and vote were given against the Government, which was practically identical with the present Administration. His return to the seat for Waihemo, lately vacated by one of the most prominent figures of that Government, looks therefore like one of the proverbial freaks of the whirligig of time.
