Serve Seddon.

Captain Ru9sell in speaking on the AddresS'in-Reply was particularly hard on the new Government supporters. From Hansard we clip the following reference to them : — We are all familiar with the old story of the money-lender who said to his son, "My son ! make money. Make it honestly, if you can; but, my son, make money." Sir. honourable gentlemen who came as new members to this House will have to follow in the steps of fheir prototypes in previous Parliaments ; and to adopt, or, rather, pharaphrase the quotation I have just given you into this, which will be impressed upon them by the Whips ; "My son ! serve Seddon. Serve him honestly, if you can ; but my son serve Seddon." I have no doubt some new honourable members of the Government party will dissent from the position and disposition I am now making of them ; but many of them, long before the dissolution of the present Parliament, will have to agree to tha absolute accuracy of what I am now asserting. I would compare each individual one of them to ,1 boy with his first oyster. He sees other persons swallowing the slippery mollusc, and apparently enjoying it, while his own gorge rises ;i* the very thought of doing so ; yet in less than three months — a period less than the duration of one session — he is prepared to get down a whole plateful, and pretended that he likes the vinegar and the pepper he has to swallow at the same time.
