THE PEKIN MASSACRE COJf-"* ' FIRMED. The Pekin massacre is officially confirmed at Shantung. COSSACKS AT TIENTSIN. The Daily Mail states the Cossacks captured six Krupp guns at Tientsin. 3,000 Chinese were killed, including General Key. The British Consul at Shanghai has little doubt about the fate of the foreigners at Pekin. In response to aa-Imperiml edict the Viceroys of the several Chinese provinces are sending troops to Peldn nominally for the purpose of suppressing the " Boxers " rebellion. FALL OF THE LEGATIONS. The Governor of Shantung, on the 15th telegraphed that soldiers and " Boxers," with heavy cannon, made an inroad into the Legations. After a gallant defence the ammunition was exhausted, and an the foreigners were killed. The Allies landed a force, and assisted by Maxims, soon secured the Taku forte, though the Chinese offered a desperate resistance. One shot exploded the powder magazine, the debris burying a large number of Chinese. The English and Japanese flags were hoisted on the first fort, the Russian on the second, and the German and Austrian on the third. The forts, which had been considered by the Chinese to be impregnable, were reduced by five little, gunboats in seven hours. Inside the forts presented a gruesome sight of headless and limbless bodies lying in all directions, while the river in the vicinity was stained with blood. A large quantity of stores and ammunition are still irr the fort.
