HOPE DIMINISHING* No news has been received from European sources at Pekin since June 25th. The occupants of the besieged Legations had then only three days' food. All subsequent information had been from native sources. The tone of the English newspapers shows that hope of rescuing the Ministers at Pekin diminishing. The Japanese newspapers consider that responsibility (or the position rests with Russia and Germany for their arbitrary actions in China* UP-TO-DATE ARTILLERY. Desultory artillery firing is still pro* ceeding around Tientsin. It has been found that the Chinese guns outclass those of the allies. LI HUNG CHANG. Chinese advices state that Li Hang Chang has been urgently summoned from Canton to Pekin, where intermal strife continues.
