HUIAS v. K. & B'S.
This was a match between the employees of Messrs Hickson & Reeves' and King & Baker's hemp mills, the former team being known as the Huia's and the latter as the K. & Bs , whioh took place on the raeeeoorae on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a win for the Huias by 6 points to nil. The game was very evenly contested, and played in the best of 'spirits, though want of knowledge of the rules was very apparent in the play of the majority of players. From the kick off the Huias made things lively for their opponents, the play being constantly in the latter's 25's, but the K. & B'b. playing gamely prevented any scoring till just before the call of half-time when from a throw out close to their line Lyons managed to get over and scored first blood for the Huias. F. Dunn failed at the kick at goal. After a little more loose play the first spell ended Huia 8, K. & B's. 0. After play was resumed in the second spell the K. & B's. seemed to wake up and compelled the Huias to force on more than one occasion. After a good deal of hard work had been done by both teams the Huia backs got a very good passing rush on which eventually ended in F. Dunn scoring. The kick, at goal again failed. From this out the play was mostly in the K. & B's. territory till the call of time, leaving the Huias victorious by 6 points to 0. For the winners F. Procter, F. Wright and Lyons were the pick of the forwards, and among the backs Corckery, A. Wright and F. Dunn played well. For the losers J. Desmond was undoubtedly the mainstay of the team,
thoivjli good work was done by G. King, Hanna, and Anderson. Mr Allan acted as referee and gave every satisfaction, while Messrs Bradcock and Webb acted as line umpires.
