NOTES.
It is very evident that the Foxton boys improve every match. The forwards played their best game so far against Ohatt on Saturday. Every man did his share, but towering above, everywhere where the ball was, conld be seen Rakina, Hana, O'Dwyer and Sullivan. There is no doubt that with practice these men are worth their places in any rep. team the Union can select.
The backs were considerably weakened by the loss of Hunter and Hughes?. A sub. "(Johns) was found in Hunter's place, but it looked as if the team were going away short, when Smith at considerable sacrifice, filled the gap like a good sport. Symons will need to improve greatly in taking the bnll off the ground. The only thing to remedy this is consistent practice. Drtimmond will need to improve in taking the ball from quick passes. This player shapes well enough in this department when practicing, but in matches he is greatly off-colour. Buthe. need not get disheartened, because time and practice will improve him. The loss of Hughes, who is in the hospital, is greatly felt by the backs. The sum of £g or £io has been generously subscribed for him by the townspeople, but it is to be hoped that he will soon be seen amongst us again.
The club has the most important fixture of the round to fulfill next Saturday, and it is to be hoped that the members of the team will make the most of the week in getting into form. Mr Thynne has generously given the club the use of his large shed for gymnasium purposes and the members should take every advantage that is offered to them. The shed has been prepared tor use, and Tuesday and Thursday are set apart as special nights for all members to put in an appearance. There are men enough in Foxton to form the best team in the Union. No man knows what he can do until he has tried, and the gymnasium is there for men to learn the game thoroughly, and practice what they know. The following shows the positions of teams so far : —
