Further information has been received concerning the engagement at Eeitfonfcein, near Oolesbu rg, h town in Capa Colony near thtsou'hern border of ihe Orange Fr^ Sate. '
It appears that a force of six thousand Boers and Free Star* burghers occupied a ridge corns manding the main road. A general encounter took plaop, and after the British artillery had silenced the enemy's gang, an advance was made by the Is Battalion (28b Foot) of the Gloucestershire Regiment and the Ddvoo Regiment (11th Foot). These troops encountered a withering fire when storming th Tintayoni Hill, the casualties of th Gl-mCfstfrß numbpring sixty-four.
The Natal Carabineers, the lBattalion of thft Liverpool Regimen and a troop of the Imperial L'g.h Horse assailed the Boers from th. rear.
The sharpshooters on the hill covered them. 1 splendid rifl duel was maintained between both sides. The colonial marksmen eclipsed the Boers, shooting brilliantly.
Finally a British-coionial charge forced the enemy to retreat to their main position afc Matuwa.^k.p, whir-.h wis oh->|!»-d un^i'l ah'inlnrvd.
A detachment of Lancera w> Vtafterwards sent in pursuit, and killed many of the foe.
