The Transvaal.
: » News has been received that the Portuguese authorities at Delegoa Bay stopped the landing of 15,000 Mauser rifles and a quantity of ammunition intended for the Transvaal. President Kroger contends that this action is a breach of treaty. Two thousand additional cases of arms and ammunition are expected to reach Delagoa Bay shortly. Dr Leyds, the Transvaal representative to the Courts of Europe, has been ordered to proceed to Lisbon. The relations between the South African Republic and Portugal are strained. President Kruger has informed the Government of Portugal that a modus vivendi between the Transvaal and Great Britain is assured, but the dispatch has not caused the Portuguese Government to change its attitude.
