CONDENSED CABLEGRAMS.

I France. The examination of witnesses by Dreyfus court-martial at B-anner is being continued. General Roget in his evidence before the court, described Estsrhazy as the victin of odious persecutions. General Roget testified that be had received a letter from Schneider \ustrian military attache, in Pane, dated November 1897, which disproved the denials of Colonel von Schwarzkoppen, German Military attache and Colonel Pannizirdi, Italian military attache, that Dreyfas had bad relation with them. On the "strength of this letter, the witness adhered to bis contention that Dreyfus was guilty. M. Demange counsel for Dreyfus, then suddenly procured a written declaration made by Schneider on the prevision day to the effect that the letter spoken of by General Roget was a forgery. M. . Bertulus, the examining magistrate, was next called, and repeated his former testimony. The witness also said that he discovered that Esterhazy had an accomplice in the Army Intelligence Department. A sensation was caused by a declaration by M. Bsrtulu3 that he balived that Dreyfus wa3 absolutely innocent. It was insisted on by the witness that in the absence of evidence of a motive, ifc was a magistrate^ duty to seek for a motive. (Sensation.) M. Bartulus pointed to Henry as Esterhazy's accomplice. The witness added that the Court of Cassation had declared that the bordereau was the work of £sterhazy. Some startling developments are expected as the trial proceeds. Colonel Picquarii'a evidenoe before the Court martial wis of an important character. In a dramatic narrative which occupied five hours in delivery the Colonel exposed the conspiracies which had been carried on against himaelf and Dreyfus. An anaylais of the facts which in his opinion proved the prisoner to be innocent was given by Colonel Picqoat. The publication of the Colonel's review of the affair has had a marked fff 'Ct throughout France General Mercier, ex-Minister oi War, in the course of his evidence earlier in the trial, declared that tht> German Emperor superintended spies, and that his word was untrustworthy. Generals Mercier who both laid stress upon Schneider's latter, will it is said, shortly be prosecuted for using forgeries. General Mercier, ex-Minister ol War, is being protected by detectives. M. Labori is slightly worae and feverish. The bullet has not yet been extracted. M. Mo lard, counsel for Dreyfus's family, is temporarily replacing M. Labori at the court-martial. . -The German newspapers declare that Dreyfus has been placed in the pillory, and is defenceless. The •• Cologne Gaxefcte," in an inspired article, saya that no con soiantious man can believe that Dreyhad dealings with Germany. He is, declared the article indubitably innocent.
