From a return supplied by the Registrar-General of the areas, population, valuations, holdings, cultivation, and stock of the counties of the colony (inclusive of interior boroughs) for 1898-99, we learn the following : — Manawatu County. — Area, 267 miles : population, 381 1 ; capital value. £1,051,008 ; unimproved value, £636,---170; value of improvements, £414, 838 ; number of occupied holdings of one acre and upwards, 359 ; area of land in cultivation, &c, 117,199 acres ; wheat 2350, oats 5388, potatoes 420 acres; horses 2200, cattle 16,228, sheep 215,826, pigs 2423.
