English Sculling Match.

A sculling match took place for £200 a-side and the " Sportsman " oup between Tom Sullivan, the New Zaalander, and Haine?, the Englishman.

For the first-mile Hainea forced the pace, but ab the mile post Sullivan was leading by a length and a half. Sullivan maintained this lead to the finish, eventually winning by twelve lengths. Time, 26min 21sec.

From an account of the race it appears that Sullivan reached Hammersmith in 9min 15^ec. He then had a lead :f oix ' D 2 hs. The New Zea Itndcr showed n-!. : er j iigrn^n!; thaa Raines in the rough water at Cliiswick and Barnes.

Haines finished 86 seconds after Sullivan.
