There was a capital attendance at the above last evening, to hear the debate " Should the Nations Dis arm," the chair being occupied by Mr T. Wesfcwood. The Miauteg of the previous meeting were read by the Secretary, and confirmed. The following mu3ical item=? were then rendered by ineinbars : — Piano forte duet. Misses N. and E. Harris ; song, Mr T. Westwood ; song, Miss Anderson ; recitation, Mr Jobnatsne; ?nvo Miss E. Spring. Mi' Woollasa opened the debate in the affirmative, with a telling sp-ech and his concluding rep y was excellent, being followed by Mi'n Woollasa, Miss Charles, Messrs Johnstone, Smiles, and A. Morgan in the same strain. For the nt-gitivp, Mr G. Simpson led tha van, bat his speech was not as good as usual, owing, the speaker said, to his taking this side against his convic-
tion. Messrs Baker, Osborne and S. Howan followed. On a vote being taken 2G recorded their votes with the affirmative, and 19 against. The next debate will be held on Wednesday fortnight, May 81st the subject being " Should the Present Government Eemain in Power." Affirmative, Messrs S. Howan and N. Walksr ; Negative, Messrs B. H. Baker and G. Simpson.
