Russian demand for concessions for the construction of the Pekin Manchurian Railway ha? excited and dismayed the Chinese official:*, who assert that the claim of Russia exhibits bad faith towards Great Britain. ThoTsung-li Yamen, or Board of Foreign Affairs, has refused the demand made, on the ground that no more concessions are to bo granted until the existing ones are fulfilled. Two thousand British troops yfcalioned at Hongkong and several gunboats have been ordered to Kau lung. It is believed that the territory is to be placed under military occupa•;on. K-iuiun^ and Shaucban citieare to be absorbed and the frontier extended. It is reported that ten thousand Chinese troops are prepared to resist the occupation of the British. A Ranter's telegram says the Tsung-li-Yamen's note to Russia states that if. is impossible to longer believe in Russian friendship towards China.
It is now stated that Italy's demand upon China in regard to Sanniun Bay, on the Coast of the province of CheKiang, is limited to a request for a simple coaling station there.
