The Egyptian Government has promised to construct a railway from Khartoum to Sobat, the town situated at the mouth of the river of the same name, which is the first eastern affluent of the Nile above Fashoda. The French Naval Budget amounts to 895,000,000 francs (£16,---000,000). of which 96,000,000 franc* (3,840,000) will be devoted to the construction of 28 new warships, including fouv battleships, six cruisers and submarine boats.
