" Checking " Luggage.
The Riilway Department propose to bring into operation, coinmeocing on February l9t next, the American plan of •• checking " passengers' luggage on all the railways of the colony. If this system 13 adopted without modification the travelling public will not relish the change. For instance, ona Trill require to be at a railway station several minutes before the starting of a, train, so that, his luggiffe may bti ent-Tf d up by a clerk, la the case of a rash of passengers one would stand a good chance of having his luggage" heft behiucL .Agaiu, should a passenger's "eEeok be losfc it would be necessary to make an affidavit to this effect before a Justice of the Peace. Further, if a passenger booking from one station to another desired to break his journey on any urgent or special business he could not recover his luggage, which would be taken on to the station his ticket wa3 taken for. These are only a few of many disadvantages in the Ame-ican system.
