The German and French investors in the Transvaal are incensed over the new taxe3 imposed on the mines, and threaten opposition. President Kruger is endeavouring to compel the Volksraad to accept a local loan, in order to avert bankruptcy. Some members of the Volfcraad allege that the loan in question is a job.
