Dp Barnardo's Homes.

In tbe Summer Number of Night ( and Day, which lies before us, Dr. ■ Barnardo devotes the major portion j of his space to a report of the Thirty- , Second Annual Meeting of his wellknown Homes. Lord Brassey, the ! Governor of Victoria, occupied the Chair, and was supported by an influential platform. His lordship was able to state that over 84.000 boys and girls had in all been admitted to the Homes and that 9,556 had been emigrated to Canada and the Colonies. Of the 2,249 fresh cases rescued during 1897 it is noteworthy that only 746 came from London, this single fact disposing of tbe criticism sometimes urged against the Homes in the Provinces that they are simply Metropolitan Institutions. Five thousand children are under Dr Barnardo's care to. day, and it is the proud beast of the Homes that no destitude child has ever been refused admission. The other contents of the issue include the usual series of " Personal Notes," with portraits of rescued waifs ; two articles, •• What's the Good ? " and " A Pellet of Mud 1 " by Dr Barnardo dealing with his reminiscences of the early days of the Homes, and other interesting matters. A copy of the magazine will be forwarded to anyone on application at headquarters, 18 to 26, Stepney Causeway London, E. where Dr Barnardo sits daily at the receipt of custom.
