The Council met on Wednesday. Present— Grs Hammond, Matthews, Wilson, McLennan, and Clark.

, It was resolved, That the Gounoil regrets exceedingly to receive Mr Taylor's resignation as councillor, and in accepting it. wishes to record its appreciation of his work as chairman during his term of office.

In reply to a letter from Walter Aizdorf re plans of road through Mr Robinson's property, it was decided he be informed that the Council desires the matter to be brought to a head.

The tramway manager's report showed that the receipts last month were £90 Is 6d, the ordinary expen diture £87 14a 6d, and the extraordinary expenditure £47 8a 6d. The earnings for the month of August;, 1897, were £87 7s 4d.

It was decided to procure one double ordinary velocipede for the tram line.

It was resolved that tenders be called to clean oat and form up the sand cutting on Milner's line from Scott's gate westwards, about 10 chains and put on 12 yards of clay per chain. Also for the following work on Gouper's line:— Making cutting and fascining, erecting two culverts and delivering 200 yards of sand.

That the Chairman be empowered to call for tenders and accept them for formation on Haloombe-Feilding

That the tender of Ellery Bros, at 10s 3d per chain be accepted for forming on Gust's Line.
