Foxton Borough Council.
APPOINTMENT OF TOWN
CLERK.
The special meeting of the above Council was held on Thursday evening at the Library buildings. '
Present — Crs. Westwood (in the chair), Hennessy, Fraser, and Rhodes. The new Councillors Messrs Easton, and Purcell, after making the usual declaration took their seats.
The business was simply to consider the applications for the position of Town Clerk.
Seventeen applications were received and read, after which they were reduced to three, when the Council adjourned to. the following night in order that replies to certain queries could be obtained from applicants.
On the adjourned meeting taking place last night all the Councillors, except the Mayor, were present, and after further consideration of the applications, it was proposed by Cr Fraser, and seconded by Cr East on, — That Mr Robert Chapman be appointed Town Clerk in accordance with advertisement, section B, at the salary of £100, and that Mr Chapman be written to asking him to be prepared to take up his duties not latter than the seventh of October.
The meeting was then closed
From Mr Chapman's testimonials it appears he has acted as an Inspector of the Selwyn Bridge; as Town Clerk, Borough Surveyor, Returning Officer, Clerk to the Library Committee, Valuer and Assessor for the Borough of Kaiapoie £r6m 1883 to 1891. He has been also Clerk of the Avon Road Board for some years.
