It appears that Austria is straining neutrality to its utmost limits by the Emparor subscribing money and lending his officers for the Spanish oause. It must however be remembered that the Queen Chris • tina, Regent of Spain is of the House of Austria, being tho only daughter of the late Archduke Carl Ferdinand, and she was born at Gross Seelowitz in 1858. In 1879, at the age of twenty- one, the Archduchess Christina married Alphonso XII. , the young King of Spain, whose first wife had died a year before, after six months of married life. The King himself died in 1885, and a few months later the Queen gave birth to her only son, who became, from that moment. King of Spain, his mother assuming the regency. For nearly twelve years she has maintained that position, and has become as popular with her subjects as any ruler of Spain for many year?, while she has earned the esteem of other nations.
