The New Town Clerk.

Following is the letter of application sent in by Mr J. McQueen to the Council : —

I beg to offer myself as a candidate for the post of Town Clerk, &c , including that of Inspector of Nuisances and Librarian at £100 per annum, and in support of this application I submit copies of four testimonials, which I trust will receive yonr careful perusal. 1 possess the following qualifications or experiences which specially fit me for the appointment, via.; —

1. I served 21 years in the Royal Engineers, which is the scientific branch of the Imperial Service.. 2. I understand book-keeping by double entry and write shorthand.

3. I was five years a warrant officer on the Public Works Department, India, supervising workmen, construction of roads, and buildings. 4. During the 7 years I was Quarter-master Sergeant part of my duties involved the sanitary charge of the Bengal Sappers and Miners Cantonments, Bengal. The water supply, drainage, &c, receiving careful attention in anticipation of annual visits of cholera and typhoid. 5. In my last position as Manager of the Glasgow University Union, the Union Library was under my supervision.

I am married, my age is 44. I am in receipt of an Imperial pension of £64 per annum which may be looked upon as affordicg security, if there is any financial responsibility attached to the position under application.

I may ndd that I have not been in any employment in New Zealand.

I can furnish the £200 required for bond.
