Foxton Borough Council.
ELECTION OF TOWN CLERK
A special meeting of the Borough Council was held at the Library buildings on Thursday, at 7.30 p.m., to consider the applications for the position of Town Clerk, &c. Present— The Mayor, Crs Hennessy, Coley, Rhodes, Walsh and Westwood. The number of applications received was 24, and were from Albert Taylor, Masterton ; David Richie, Wellington ; R. Murray, Dannevirke ; S. M. Baker, Foxton; W. Stewart, Masterton; C. H. Mellsop, Palmerston ; J. H. Schoen, Dunedin ; Richard Dunn, Wellington ; Henry Hazell, Marton ; F. R. Young, Foxton; F. de Ridder, Foxton; W. Alzdorf, Foxton ; E. A. Ede, Foxton ; Charles Boyd, Wellington; G. A. Simpson, Foxton; Alfred J. Norrish, Manakau ; G. Stringer, Mangatanoki ; D. B. Howard, Mangaweka; James Liddell, Foxton ; A. H. Gibson, Crofton; John Hibbard, Wellington; W. Hester, Petone ; F. McQueen, Feilding; and Alfred Fraser, Foxton. The Acting Town Clerk read all the
applications, with the accompanying testimonials, to the Council, which duty occupied exactly one hour, at the conclusion of which the Council went into committee to consider the same.
On the Council resuming the following resolutions were agreed to : — Proposed by Cr Coley, seconded by Cr Westwood, That the application, of Mr F. McQueen, Feilding, be accepted for the various positions of Town Clerk, &c, as advertised, at a salary of £ioo per annum, and that Mr McQueen be communicated with to take up his duties at once.
Proposed by Cr Rhodes, seconded by Cr Coley, That the Mayor, Crs Heunessy and Westwood be a special committee to take the necessary steps for appointing the new Town Clerk. The meeting then closed. Afterwards an informal conversation took place re the Wirokino Bridge and the Mayor was directed to telegraph Mr Fulton about the plans and specifications, and if the reply was not satisfactory he was to make a special trip to Wellington to hurry Mr Fulton up.
It was decided to have fresh specifications for the erection of a pound drawn up and for tenders to be invited for the next meeting.
