Foxton Racing Club.

» A meeting of the Committee of the above was held last night at the Club's office. Present— Messrs W. B. Rhodes (chairman), H. Border, J. H. Robinson, W. G. Robinson, J. H. Howan, W. Puroflll, Q. Gray and the secretary. J. R. Whyte. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read from Mr R. G. Edwards (architect), in which he submitted for consideration a plan of a new grand-stand for the Foxton racecourse. The plans showed that the new structure would be both attractive and substantial, and would comfortably Beat 860 people, all of whom would have an uninterrupted view of every part of the racecourse. In answer to a question, Mr Ed* wards, who was present, said the timber to be used would be matai and rimu, and the iron from the old ( stand could be used in roofing the I new stand.

Mr Border proposed 4 That the | plans for building grand stand as submitted by Mr Edwards be approved, and that tenders be called for same, the secretary to report after tenders are called for. Seconded by Mr W. Robinson, and carried. A letter was read from the secretary of the Wanganui Jockey Club, inviting the co-operation of the club in regard to the free passes issued to jockeya, and referring to a letter of "*" Sir George Clifford in the N.Z. H* few of J uly 2^th. It was decided to consider the matter at the next meeting. The question of whether a two days' meeting should be held was next considered^ and It was proposed by Mr Border* seconded by Mr W. Purcell that the Club hold the two days, viz., 22ad and 34th JantU ary, 1898. Carried. The secretary said he would draw up a programme, which could be considered at the next meeting., A vote of thanks to the ohair con* eluded the meeting.
