The French in Central Africa.
M. Bonvalot, who is in command of the French expedition in Abyssinia left in charge of the Marquis de Bonchampa, and ha? reached Didesa river, in a westerly direction from Abyssinia. Through the influence of King Menelik he was assisted in his travels by the Galla chiefs, and thereby experienced little difficulty in hia mission. The Paris newspaper Z« Tempi says the object sought to be attained by M. Binvalot is to establish French interests solidly on the banks of the White Nile, and to facilitate trading operations from the French Congo by the Übangi river, a northern branch of the Congo.
