Racing Conference.

The Racing Conference opened Friday morning at Wellington. Auckland, Canterbury, Dunedin, Hawke's Bay, Wanganuu Wellington; Taranaki, Greymoutb, ftelson" and Marlborough Racing Clubs being represented ; also Auckland, Canterbury, Hawke'a Bay, Wanganui, Wellington, Taranaki, Nelson, Greymouth and Marlborough country 41 clubs. Sir Geo. Clifford, President, M.as in the chair and explained that the present meeting was Convened for the revision of the rules. A sub-committee he said had carefully considered the present rules, and made alterations where they thought necessary to brine; them in unity with the English and Australian code. Certain of the proposals which were to be submitted were a consolidation of the rules, and were no new departure. The chairman said that unless a notice of motion was given no amendment; which meant substantial alteration in the rules regarding racing would be accepted. Some of the delegates objected, but the chairman insisted on his ruling. Mr Allison, of Auckland moved that the Metropolitan Clubs should appoint the official calendar for the district instead of the Racing Conference deciding the official calendar. Captain Russell and the Hon. G. McLean supported this view, though the former thought that the sub-committee should be appointed to deal with the question of the official calendar that would be suitable to all, and possibly one separated from any newspaper. Ultimately the amendment was withdrawn, and Mr Allison gave notice that he would later on move to set, up a committee to deal with the matter. At the Racing Conference an amendment by Mr Nolan, of Auckland, that where the added money is under £150 the programme need not necessarily be advertised in the official calendar, was rejected. ■ 11 - *»
