A Boy Shot Dead near Levin.
# Abeut 1 o'clock on Sunday a fatal gun accident occurred in the Wereroa bush, about three miles and a half from Levin. Edward Travers, 17 years of age, and Owen Doyle, 18 years old, were shooting pigeons in the bush, Travers carrying a doublebarrelled breech-loading gun. While Travers was going round a tree, intending to fire at a bird, he slipped and fell, and the hammer of the gun striking the ground, the barrel was discharged. The contents struck Doyle, who was about 30 yards off, and entered his body at the pit of the stomach, causing instantaneous death. Constable O'Conhdr . has telegraphed the particulars to Inspector Pender. The deceased lad was a son of Mr M. Doyle, of the Horowhenua Village Settlement, and a brother of Mrs J. Reid, of Shannon. The other lad is a son of Mr Travers, roadman.— N.Z. Times.
