Rudeness Punished.

» — . . An episode of an unusual kind

occurred (says the Otago Daily Times) in the Chamber-room of the Supreme Court, the other day, when Mr Justice Williams was investigating th« claims against this J. G. Ward Farmers' Association, in liquidation, of persons whom the Official Liquidator had calletTupon for proof in * I support of their claims. A South* j land claimant, whose case was before the Court, had been rebuked by the Judge for interrupting the proceed* ing?, but still persisted in making interjection?. His Honour, addressing him, said he bad better leave the room if he could notliold hie tongue. To this the claimant rudely replied that he could not hold his tongue —if they wanted him to hold his tongue they had better get a policeman. 41 Very well," said his Honour, "if you cannot be quiet I'Uhavetoadjourn the proceedings, and you will have to pay the cost of the adjournment." The claimant's legal .advioer at this Btage endeavoured in vain to induce him to leave the room, but he obstiDately declined to move, and' made some remark to Ihe effect that he had teen speaking to the reporters, to whom this was the fired intimation of their being so honoured. Mr Justi6e Williams thereupon summarily adjourned the discussion of that particular claim till ihe next day, and directed that the • claimant should pay £5 ss, the costs t)f the adjourn' mant.
