A New Industry.
It is with very much pleasure we learn that Messrs Gammon Bros*, from Tahoraiti, intend to erect a sawin'll on the bank of the river, as near the wharf as a site can ba procured. This firm is an old established one, and expend large sums yearly in wages and freights at thair two mills in Hawke'a Bay. The primary object of starting this mill in town will be to take advantage of lessened freights, and to obtain white pine from the bushes in the near neighbourhood, the demand for which has been increased for butter and fruit boxes, &c. A lease has been secured of 500 acre 3of bush near Shannon, from which the timber will probably be brought by river ; a further choice bush has been secured near Rongotea, fiom which timber will be brought by tram.
