■• •* ■ ••. ■ * ■ » . ■ The ordinary monthly meeting was held at Sanson yesterday morning at 11.80. Present — Crs. Ransom (chairman), Robinson, Masters, Strang, Taylor and Hammond. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read and considered :— From R. Edwards, Sandon, applying for a slaughtering license for section 88, Fagan's Line, and enclosing fee of £1. From A. S. Easton, Foxton, saying that the culvert leading into his farm was doing a deal of damage. [The overseer was instructed to see what was required to remedy matter complained of.] From E. Piggott, Shannon, asking if he has the right of using the small reserve near the ferry. From Roderick Munro, asking for alteration to be made in ratebook for Native section 148, Township of Sandon, in place of late James Munro. From William Latto, Moutoa, asking for particulars re ferry reserve at Shannon. From Treasury, te amount off rates struck over County. I
From Charles W. Hoffman, complaining of the action of the poundkeeper in impounding a horse owned by him! From dhairnian Rarigitikei Godnty Council saying that at a reCeilt nleeting of that body a resolution was adopted that a petition should be presented to Parliament praying that the Manawatu Railway should be purchased by the Government, and sending a petition for signature. From the Treasury, sending notice of first advance of £100 had been paid on account of loan of £660 for metalling Rowe's Line and a portion of Hammond's Line. Carried. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr Hammond, That the name of Roderick Munro be placed on the rate-roll in place of the late James Munro for Native section 148, Township of Sandon. Carried. Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded by Cr Strang, That Mr R. G. Edwards be granted a license to kill great and small cattle on section No. 88, Fagan's Line, Hutt Small Farm Block, Sandon. Carried. The chairman reported that he and Cr Wilson had interviewed the Premier air Wellington in regard to the refusal of the Government to allow the construction of the Levin* Greatford Railway. The Premier had replied that the Goverment were guided solely by Mr McEerrow's re> port, which was adverse to the project. The deputation then requested that the Government should purchase the Sandon Carnarvon Tramway, which they pointed out fitted in very well with the present arrangements on the Government line. The Premier J3aid he was opposed to it personally, but that he would place the matter before Cabinet for con-> sideration. Proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Masters, That the poundkeeper be written to and asked for an explanation to Mr Hoffman's letter of June 15ib. Carried. Proposed by Cr Strang, seconded by Cr Masters, That a new boat be ordered for use at the Shannon Ferry, and that Cr Strang, in conjunction with the present farryman, make out a specification for building same,' and get a boat built at lowest price possible ; also that the old boat be sold. Carried. Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded by.Cr Robinson, That leave of absence be granted to Cr Wilson for this meeting. Carried. Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded by Cr Robinson, That Mr Ingles haye notice to clear the gorse from his side of the road on Wilson's Line. Carried. • Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Or Robinson, That Mr Hands be given noti c to clear away rubbish adjacent to his premises as provided for in Public Works Act. Carried. The Council went into Committee and passed the -following resolution : — Proposed by Cr Ranson, seconded by Cr Robinson, That the Council take the necessary steps to raise a loan of £6000 under the Local Bodies' Loans Act for the purpose of forming and metalling a number of roads within the Manawatu County in accordance with the attached schedule, and that a special rate of l-9th of a penny in the £ be struck over the whole of the Manawatu County to secure interest and principal upon that amount. Carried. Mr W. Giesen waited on the Council in regard to proposed deviation of road to Feilding at the foot of Mount Stewart, and said he had obtained the signatures as requested from the Native owners to allow the construction of the road. He also mentioned the amount required by them for the land. The accounts were passed for payment and the Council adjourned.
