Chess and Draughts Club.
A general meeting of the above Club was held at Whyte's Hotel on Tuesday night at 8 o'clock to receive the report of the committee* Mr Washington Stewart took the chair. The rules and regulations of the Club were read and after a few alterations, adopted* The Committee brought up thei* report announcing the refusal of the Council to grant the use of the Library, and that they had a moat advantageous offer of two rooms in the premises lately occupied by Mr Walls on the Main street, which they recommended the Club to secure. The report further mentioned that the Committee had obtained furniture and stationery as directed at the last meeting. Mr Curtis proposed and Mr Cowlea seconded, That the rooms as recommended by the Committee be taken, and the resolution was unanimously carried. The Committee announced that the rooms would be ready for play on Friday the Bth. It was then decided that the season should be opened by a tournament in which the Rev. George Aitkens undertakes to play six games of chess simultaneously, and Mr John Stuart will play six of draughts simultaneously. ■ The meeting then olosed with the usual vote of thanks to the ohair.
