Otaki Licensing Committee.

The quarterly meating of tbe above Committee was held at Otaki at noon yesterday. Present Messrs R. L. Stanford, S.M., (chairman), P. Stuckey, F. Bennett, J. McCulloch, £. Pearce, T. P. "Williams, J. Smith and B. S. Thynne. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. F. L. Garland applied for a transfer of the Levin Hotel at Levin to R. Buckeridge. When the applioation was considered it was discovered that the notice in the newspaper Btated the application would be made to the Oourt sitting at .Wellington. It was found that clause 28 of " The Alcoholic Liquors Sale Control Aot Amendment Aot 1895 " eoabled the error to be repaired by a certificate under the hand of the chairman. The transfer was therefore granted. T. V. Procter applied for a transfer of the license of the Post Office Hotel, Foxton, to Carl F. Mortensen. In this case the Inspector of Licensed bouses put in a very unfavourable report of the manner the house had been condncted lately. Mr A. S. Baker appeared for C. Mortensen. Constable Gillespie gave sworn evidence of what he had seen and heard and was cross-examined thereon, without disturbing the original evidenoe. The Committee, after consideration, deoided to grant the transfer and to caution the landlord to be more cautious in the future. At the request of some members of the Committee the Chairman announced that the decision was that of a majority. Thomas King applied for a temporary transfer of his licensed premises in Otaki to Edward George McDermott. Granted. The Official Assignee applied for a temporary transfer of the Taita hotel to Mr S. Duffy. Granted.
