Mr J. H. Hofmeyr, leader of the Afrikander Bund Party in the Cape Party in the Cape Parliament, proclaims his severance from Mr Rhodes, the late Premier. In the excitement over the Cuban war, local politics are forgotten. The squadron and a oorps of 25,000 men are preparing to reinforoe the Spanish troops in Cuba, and shipowners are off- ring privateers.
