Sandon Racing Club.
A meeting of the Sandon Raoing Club was held in the Sandon Hotel on Tuesday night, Mr J. A. Bailey in the chair. A telegram from the Premier was read in regard to the totalisator permit, in reply to an inquiry of the Secretary. The telegram was as follows '.—' The matter remains as it was when you were in W llington.' As was pointed out by the Chairman, this was not a direct refusal of the permit, but it was not considered advisable to accept nominations on the ohance of a favourable reply being given. As, however, there was a feeling in favour of holding the meeting on the date fixed, in order not to disappoint lovers of horse racing and owners, the meeting would be asked to consider a draft of a new programme drawn up by the Secretary, in which it was proposed to largely reduce the amount of prize money to be offered. After some discussion it wai resolved on the motion of Mr Neil, seconded by Mr Perritt, That a race meeting be. held on the date previously fixed, on the lines of the programme submitted by the Secretary. Each race on the proposed programme was then considered and with some amendments approved of, the total prize money to be £150 as compared with £275 on the original programme. The Secretary was authorised. to proceed to Wanganui with a view of having the programme passed by the Metropolitan Club without delay, and it was expected that it wonld appear in the Advocate on Thursday. The Secretary was instruoted to invite bookmakers to the meeting with the view that the receipts from the licenses granted to them wo»ld to some extent compensate for the loss of the totalisator. The matter of fixing dates for the closing of nominations, sale of privileges, etc., were left to the Secretary to act as circumstances may decide. — Advocate.
